DON BOSCO, TARLAC—The Office of Institutional Affairs—Research and Development executed a series of research orientation and capacity-building activities entitled ‘Research 101: Know Research and its Fundamentals’ to all academic teaching and non-teaching lay mission partners, last September 25 and 29, 2023, at Fr. Charles Braga Audio Visual Room, DBTI Tarlac, Sto. Cristo, Tarlac City.
The activity was administered by the Institutional Research Officer, Mr. Karl Josh M. Guillermo. He highlighted various plans and programs for the institution that caters to enhanced lay mission partners’ and students’ interest in research. Moreover, different techniques and notions were presented throughout the capacity-building part.
It was attended by the Assistant Principal for Academic Affairs from GS, JHS, SHS, and graced a support from the Rector-Principal, Fr. Edwin L. Ulanday, SDB, and Rev. Daniel Gonzales, SDB, the Deputy Principal for Academic Affairs. Truly, Don Bosco Tarlac is setting its goals towards new opportunities that aid in improving and administering the quality of education through research and development.

The office of Institutional Affairs Office Research and Development, headed by Mr. Karl Josh M. Guillermo, Don Bosco Institutional Research Officer, sets up a courtesy meeting with Tarlac Provincial Science and Technology Director, Dir. Karen Y. Danez, at the Provincial Science and Technology Office, Tarlac State University Main, San Vicente, Tarlac City, on October 10, 2023.
Holding up various activities for research and development was administered by the Tarlac Provincial Science and Technology Office for Don Bosco Tarlac. The courtesy meeting was an eye-opener in promoting a diverse culture in research and generating and modernizing technology, uplifting discern programs in science and technology.
Now, through the collaboration with Tarlac Provincial Science and Technology, it will start defining the importance of research and development and developing a holistic research culture within its reach. With this kind of research-related activity, we are able to establish a research center in the city that focuses on various classroom-based research, action research, investigatory research, and technical research.
Regional Science, Technology, Innovation Week in Botolan, Zambales
Exciting news! DB Tarlac Research and Dev't takes part in the 2023 Regional Science, Technology, Innovation Week in Botolan, Zambales. The event was a success, showcasing bright ideas, driving innovation, and fostering collaboration for the community's welfare. Bosconians were amazed by science-related activities and exhibits in various categories. Director Sicat expressed strong support for research initiatives, highlighting partnerships with Tarlac State University and the Provincial Government. This experience cultivates a research culture and fuels innovation for the future!
DB Tarlac young Mathematicians accept the DOST YES Award
From a wide array of students with special skills in Mathematics, four Bosconians were recognized by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Science Education Institute for their international contribution in their field conferring the Youth Excellence in Science (YES) Award, last January 30, 2024, at Fr. Balocco Gymnasium.
The YES Award is to recognize young men and women of science whose quest for excellence knows no bounds. The students who are awarded are; Julleana Marie Soriano, Jesse Alexander A. Mancao, Allan Matthew V. Verbo, and Royce Cendrick Y. Wong. These young mathematicians were accompanied by the Rector – Principal, Fr. Edwin L. Ulanday, SDB, Deputy Principal for Academic Affairs, Fr. Daniel R. Gonzales, SDB, and the Institution Research Officer, Mr. Karl Josh M. Guillermo.
DB Tarlac x UP SHS Tarlac Research Collab
Don Bosco Tarlac Research Office initiated an inception meeting with the University of the Philippines Manila School of Health Science – Tarlac Campus to discuss the plans for future research collaboration and partnership, last February 12, 2024, UP SHS Extension Campus, San Isidro, Tarlac City.
The inception meeting for research collaboration holds paramount significance for the educational research of the institution as it serves as the foundational step in developing research initiatives.
The meeting was directed by the UP SHS Executives, headed by the acting director, Asst. Prof. Mary Cris Tablante-Rombaoa, and Don Bosco Tarlac’s Research Officer, Mr. Karl Josh M. Guillermo, together with the Institutional Affairs Office, headed by Dr. Therese Angela M. Caldez, External Affairs Officer, Mr. Ryan Benedict D. Gonzales, and CommDev Officer, Ms. Ivy Joy T. Gabriel.
The collaboration with UPM SHS Tarlac Campus can establish the framework and initial plans for the joint research endeavor shaping the trajectory and outcomes of the combined effort. The expertise of both institutions can be used in providing progressive research results that can be used for extension programs and adopted communities.
DB Tarlac hosts DOST-Regional Mobile Science Centrum
Being the first private school in the city to host the DOST-Regional Mobile Science Centrum (RMSC), Don Bosco Tarlac became this year’s home of DOST science exhibits.
The RMSC showcased 22 science-and-technology-based crafts and apparatus that enable students to establish scientific and innovative minds with principles, theories, facts, and concepts across science.
The said event is in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology-Tarlac (DOST-Tarlac), the Department of Education Tarlac City School Division (DepEd-TCSD), and Don Bosco Technical Institute Tarlac, Inc. Institutional Affairs Research Office.
In the welcoming remarks of Mr. Karl Josh Guillermo, Don Bosco Tarlac’s Institutional Research Officer, “The Mobile Science Center is not just a collection of exhibits; it is a gateway to a world of wonder and curiosity,” emphasizing that science has its own depth since there are many ideas to unlock and questions to explore as we delve to understand the concepts of each experiment in the science centrum.
DOST Regional Director, Dr. Julius Caesar V. Sicat, shared, “This event and place are an open invitation for our youth to explore the boundless concepts that science will bring us,” emphasizing the significance of this program to the youth in fostering science and innovation in our country.
Additionally, Dr. Irelyn P. Tamayo, DepEd Tarlac City Schools Division Superintendent, expressed that “If we want to make our nation not a third-world country, we must have a strong foundation in science, which will come, of course, from the brilliance of science teachers and DOST in this endeavor through interactive tools and equipment,” highlighting the aid and value of these innovative technologies in nurturing the knowledge of students, especially in science subjects, to be able to compete with students across the world.
“Makaka-asa po kayo na ang City Goverment of Tarlac…, ay patuloy na naka-suporta sa makabuluhang programa ng DOST, na naglalayong palaguin ang Science and Technology bilang susi sa pag-unlad at progreso ng Tarlac City at ng buong bansa, lalo na ang pag-unlad ng pamumuhay ng ating kababayan…,” emphasized Hon. Kathrina Theresa Angeles in her inspirational message during the opening ceremony of the RMSC.
Don Bosco Tarlac invites teachers and students from various schools in Tarlac City to join, experience, and acquire new knowledge through having a moment with the interactive exhibits prepared by the DOST for Tarlaqueños.
RMSC will be held at Glowicki Hall, Senior High School Building, Don Bosco Tarlac, from April 22 to May 10, 2024, 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

DB Tarlac Research Area participated in AWS re: Imagine Conference
Taguig City, Philippines – As a starter to this school year 2024-2025, Don Bosco Technical Institute Tarlac, Inc. Research Area, which the Research Officer represented, Mr. Karl Josh M. Guillermo, joined the AWS re: Imagine Conference for Education and Research 2024 together with other delegates from the education sector, state, and local governments, last August 28, 2024, at AWS Office, 15th Floor, Arthaland Century Pacific Tower, BGC, Taguig.
This event focused on the latest advancements in cloud technology, offering attendees a unique opportunity to connect with peers and explore data-driven transformation.
Delegates from higher education Institutions and other Government Agencies, such as the University of the Philippines Diliman, De La Salle University, PAG-ASA, and the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), engaged in discussions on community safeguarding and learned about equitable services and learning initiatives powered by the AWS Cloud. The conference covered a wide range of topics, from advancing education to supporting pediatric research, highlighting the diverse applications of cloud technology in various sectors.
The event underscored the importance of innovation in driving progress and fostering collaboration among different stakeholders. Attendees left with valuable insights and new connections, ready to implement the knowledge gained to benefit their respective fields.
DB Tarlac participates in the TCSDO PR 1 Research Seminar-Workshop
Representatives from Don Bosco Tarlac, Mr. Karl Josh M. Guillermo, Research Officer, and Mr. Greg Recto Cayabyab, Research Teacher, participated in the two-day research workshop of Tarlac City Schools Division, The Journey to Phenomenon: Heading to the Wonders and Structure of Practical Research 1—Qualitative Research, on September 21 and 28, 2024 (Saturday), at TCSD Sampaguita Hall.
These two Saturday seminar workshops provided a comprehensive discussion about qualitative research aligned to the domains and strands under PPSSH and PPST. The 14 public schools in the seminar and workshop comprised 1 School Head and 1 Practical Research Teacher. TCPEIA was also represented by 1 School Head and 1 Practical Research Teacher.
The event has six destinations, and each terminus is explained in detail, making the discussion easier to understand. Starting with Destination 0, Dr. Paguio discussed the fundamentals of qualitative research by sharing a glimpse of the storyline down to its final destination, wrapping up with the discussions about the presentation of summary, conclusion, and recommendation by Dr. Hernandez.
Development of the Institution’s Research Agenda
DON BOSCO TARLAC – The Office of the Institutional Affairs Research and Development, through the Institutional Research Officer, Mr. Karl Josh M. Guillermo, successfully conducted the 2023-2028 Development of the Institution’s Research Agenda and the Write shop and Capacity Building of Classroom-based Research and Critiquing of Research Manuscripts, last February 24, 2024, at De Sales Auditorium, Don Bosco Technical Institute Tarlac, Inc.
The event was in partnership with the Tarlac State University College of Education Extension Program headed by Dr. Jasper Jay N. Mendoza, and was graced by faculty members from Preschool to Grade 12, Assistant Principals for Academic Affairs, Deputy Principal for Academic Affairs, Fr. Daniel R. Gonzales, SDB, and the Economer, Fr. Ian O. Rosal, SDB.
For the Development of the Research Agenda, Mr. Guillermo presented the objectives and importance of the research agenda, and how it will help the school in crafting its research culture for sustainability. Subsequently, the speaker during the seminar, which was the Dean of the College of Education, Dr. Mendoza discussed various dilemmas and school gaps that the school can revisit, and from these gaps, they can now formulate their research interest that can be primarily helpful in their classroom teaching.
DB Tarlac R&D participates in the UP Clark Research Symposium
Angeles City, Pampanga – On December 13, 2024, the Office of Institutional Affairs Research and Development, along with SHS and JHS faculty members, attended the Governance and Innovation Leadership Research Symposium at the Women and Children Center, Angeles City Hall Compound, Angeles City, Pampanga.
As part of nurturing the research culture at Don Bosco Tarlac, the research office aims to broaden the ideas and awareness of faculty and staff through participation in research-related events such as symposiums. The event addressed various challenges and solutions for helping the community and proposed innovative plans for the future.

DB Tarlac Representatives Present Research Proposal to Deped TCSDO
Tarlac City, Philippines – Representatives from Don Bosco Tarlac presented their research papers at the 2024 Research Proposal of School Heads and Practical Research Teachers, held on November 7 and 8, 2024, at Sampaguita Hall, Deped Tarlac City Schools Division Office. The event showcased various research proposals enhancing educational practices and policies from various School Heads and Practical Research Teachers across Tarlac City.
Don Bosco Tarlac was represented by Mr. Karl Josh M. Guillermo, the Research Officer, and Mr. Greg Recto Cayabyab, the Practical Research Teacher. These two faculty researchers presented a phenomenological study, contributing valuable insights into the academic and management level situation. Their participation emphasized Don Bosco Tarlac's commitment to advancing educational research and nurturing academic excellence within the community.
Research Talk: The Fundamentals in Research
The Don Bosco Tarlac Grade 10 Junior High School Bosconians participated in the Research Talk on Fundamentals of Research, last November 5, 2024, at De Sales Auditorium, Don Bosco Tarlac. The talk was administered by the school’s Research Officer, Mr. Karl Josh M. Guillermo under the Office of Institutional Affairs Research and Development.
Mr. Guillermo discussed the importance and technicalities of research. He also expressed that research is not hard, but rather, research is fun if just appreciate it. The event was in line with the development of the school’s research culture and increased awareness of student to the importance and help of research to their studies and daily lives.
BEST PAPER NOMINEE IN THE TRI-CONFERENCE 2025
Los Banos, Laguna—Don Bosco Tarlac’s Research Officer, Mr. Karl Josh M. Guillermo, presented his research paper entitled “Perception of SHS Students Towards the Use of GenAI Prompt Engineering to Generate Academic Outputs,” which was nominated and recognized as one of the top three best papers out of 22 international submissions in the recently concluded Tri-Conference 2025 International Symposium on Education, AI, and Cybersecurity, at the University of the Philippines Open University, Los Banos, Laguna.
DB Tarlac attends DB Makati's 7th Annual Research Symposium
Don Bosco Tarlac marked its inaugural participation as research presenters at the 7th Annual Research Symposium held at Don Bosco Makati on February 27-28, 2025.
The event gathered students from various Don Bosco settings to showcase research studies from Junior High School and Senior High School levels.
On the first day, Grade 11 students from Don Bosco Tarlac attended the symposium as observers. The morning session featured research proposals from Junior High School students, while the afternoon session divided participants into breakout groups where they viewed Senior High School research presentations from different strands.
On the second day, four research groups from Don Bosco Tarlac presented their studies.

Sampaloc, Manila – Don Bosco Tarlac Senior High Schol (SHS) students showcased exceptional performance in presenting their research papers at the UST Multidisciplinary Research Congress 2025, held from March 11-13, 2025, at the Bl. Pier Giorgio Frassati SHS Building, University of Santo Tomas, Sampaloc, Manila.
22 Bosconians, 5 Research Papers, 1 Research Congress. Don Bosco Tarlac’s research initiatives are truly remarkable in developing a strong research culture among students and lay mission partners. These five research papers were meticulously selected and assessed by their research coaches and advisers.
The event was a transformative experience for the students of Don Bosco Tarlac, cultivating their interest in research and empowering them to contribute advancements to the socio-science field.

Congratulations to our Senior High School student-researchers for successfully having their research papers accepted for presentation at the 1st Don Bosco Tarlac Research Symposium this April 7, 2025, at De Sales Auditorium, Don Bosco Tarlac Main Campus.
1ST RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM
Don Bosco Tarlac conducted its 1st Research Symposium on April 7, 2025, with six research groups from the Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS), Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM), and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) strands presenting their completed research papers.
The event was attended by invited guest panelists Dr. Cynthia G. Quiambao and Prof. Geraldine G. Villanueva from Tarlac State University, who provided feedback on the presented studies.
Grade 11 students were also present as observers. Their participation served as their Mini-Performance Task for Practical Research 1, aimed at providing them with a preview of the research process they will undergo in the following school year.

This annual event aims to recognize outstanding research contributions from students and lay mission partners, emphasizing the institution's commitment to promoting research.
Gawad SaliksikJUAN serves as a platform to showcase high-quality research outputs that reflect Don Bosco Tarlac’s dedication to academic excellence and critical thinking. Highlighted presentations include the Top 3 Best Papers from the International Symposium on Education, Artificial Intelligence, and Cybersecurity 2025, with Mr. Karl Josh M.
